Chief Volunteer for Scouts England Visits Norjam
We were lucky to welcome Liz Henderson to Norjam this week!
Liz is the Chief Volunteer for Scouts England and she spent the day exploring the site, trying out activities, and talking to Scouts and Guides. She also caught up with our reporter Hannah for a quick chat about her role and her visit. Liz helps lead and support Scout volunteers across England, a role she has held for three years. “ I got this role by accident, I was just filling in at first, but I soon realised how much I loved it and I’ve stayed”. Her role is about making sure that Scouting is safe, fun, and open to everyone. She also checks that the programme stays exciting and high quality. Best of all, she gets to visit amazing events like Norjam, which is her fourth jamboree this summer!
This isn’t Liz’s first or only Scouting role.

She has helped with Beavers, Scouts, and Explorers in both North London and Somerset. She’s always had a passion for Scouting – and so has her husband! Liz is no stranger to Jamboree life having been part of the activity team at Essex International Jamboree back in 2016. Having had a tour of Norjam Liz was asked what her favourite activity onsite was. “Definitely the trek carts! They’re a great Scouting skill and remind us of our history. Plus, they show teamwork and integrity.” Liz also loved how many different activities there are for young people to try here at Norjam.
