Cubs and brownies drop in

On Monday and Wednesday, the Cubs and Brownies arrived at Norjam and were instantly swept up in the festival-like buzz

From the moment that the cubs and brownies stepped onto the site, the air was alive with colour, sound, and laughter. Towering gate builds marked the entrances to incredible subcamps, each bursting with personality and creativity, while enthusiastic volunteers radiated positive energy – cheering, clapping, and guiding the young adventurers through their Norjam day. Their visit was a non-stop adventure, packed with an amazing variety of activities

At the main stage, spirits soared during a lively dance session. Instructors led the crowd through fun, easy-to-follow choreography, encouraging everyone to move, clap, and feel the beat. The energy was contagious, with Cubs and Brownies jumping, twirling, and grinning ear to ear. Lenny from Mattishall Scout Group, North Norfolk, said, “I enjoyed the dancing the most so far. I’m looking forward to searching around the marketplace next, it’s good fun to see Norjam.”

Just a short stroll away, the Donkey Derby was proving to be one of the biggest hits of both days. A stable full of inflatable donkeys, a miniature hurdle course, and plenty of cheering onlookers set the scene for a hilariously fun, timed race around the track. Giggles and determination filled the air, and Cubs from 1st Mulbarton declared it their “favourite activity of the day” – right alongside their visit to the bustling marketplace, where they hunted for treasures like the ever-popular rubber duck woggles. Abigail from Alpington Guide Group agreed: “Donkey Derby is my favourite activity, and I’m looking forward to the marketplace. I really want to come to Norjam next time.” She was especially excited to learn that a climbing wall awaited her in the next activity zone.

Beyond the Derby, Eaton Vale’s activityzone offered even more thrills – from a mini climbing wall and RC car racing to catapult challenges. Cubs and Brownies dashed in every direction, brimming with enthusiasm and tackling each activity with the support of Norjam volunteers and their leaders. The marketplace itself was a hive of excitement: rows of colourful stalls, flags waving in the breeze, and vendors proudly displaying a treasure trove of Norjam goodies. Cubs and Brownies explored every corner, clutching bags filled with teddies, woggles, keyrings, sweet treats, and other keepsakes. For many, the real highlight was that little taste of independence – browsing, choosing, and making their own purchases – leaving them brimming with pride and joy.
